LG's Chromebase all-in-one Chrome OS PC coming to CES 2014

LG's Chromebase all-in-one Chrome OS PC coming to CES 2014

Google’s Chrome OS is not limited to only laptops or what are known as Chromebooks. There are Chromeboxes as well, which are mini PCs that run the Google OS. However, LG is preparing to bring a new category of PCs running Chrome OS. At CES 2014, LG will be showcasing the Chromebase (Model 22CV241), a 21.5-inch all-in-one computer that runs on the minimal OS. Under the large Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS display, the Chromebase will be powered by an Intel Celeron processor (clock speed and generation not specified) coupled with 2GB RAM. LG also includes 16GB of solid state drive, which is standard for all Chromebooks. The LG Chromebase also bundles up a keyboard, mouse, speakers and webcam. Moreover, it can be also used as a standalone display for other PCs, owing to the HDMI support. It also comes with a USB 3.0 and three USB 2.0 ports.

With the Chromebase, LG plans to target schools, hotels, and call centers, among other businesses. It isn’t particularly looking at individual users. One of the USP of Chrome OS is its ability to store the content in cloud. This could benefits schools and hotels, as the machines can be swapped between locations without them losing data.

India has only recently begun seeing Chromebook launches. And if LG does follow the example of Acer, HP and most recently Samsung, the Chromebase could be released in India before too long. The pricing will obviously be a key component in LG's push into this territory. Apart from LG prepping to showcase it at the CES 2014, there is no word on when the device will be available for purchase.
