How romantic: Bride's father wants groom to get a million Facebook likes as dowry
Now here's a Facebook story we can't dislike. While we know and understand that dowry is a terrible practice, and this one takes it to crazier heights. A man in Yemen has been asked to garner a million Facebook likes as dowry to stand a chance to marry his prospective bride. Now, while we’re used to seeing dowries being demanded by the groom’s family, this here is a different case. According to reports, the girl’s father is the one who put across this pretty weird demand to his prospective son-in-law. The man wants his daughter to be married only after her to-be husband gets a million likes on his own Facebook page, even if it takes years.
Salem Ayash is a poet who resides in Taiz, Yemen and is the father of the to-be bride. The report says that no one can afford to pay dowries anymore in Yemen and hence the girl’s father made this unusual demand. Ayash is probably a very social media savvy man and reportedly said that the prospective groom is free to take a month, a year, or even two to collect the required likes. “If I see that he’s worked hard, I’m willing to be flexible to see them happily married,” he reportedly said. We’re fans of true love too, sir!It’s worth mentioning, though, that the Facebook page has collected more than 33,000 likes. And now thanks to some more publicity, his goal will likely become easier. Hopefully, it shouldn’t be too long before the wedding celebrations begin in the Ayash family.
