Vivo Xplay 3S with 2K display, Snapdragon 800 coming on December 12

A while ago, there popped up a rumour about an Android smartphone with a 2K or Quad HD display, thanks to a teaser. Turns out the speculation was bang on the money. China’s Vivo is about to unveil the Xplay 3S, which could be the phablet to beat next year. The Note 3 rival will have a 5.5-inch 2,560 x 1,440 display, Snapdragon 800 with 3GB RAM and a USB 3.0 port. The Xplay 3S is slated for a December 12 unveilingThe retina-burning display will be leagues ahead of any other smartphone on the planet, in terms of resolution at least. However, it does seem like overkill to us, given that we can’t spot any major differences between a 720p and a 1080p display at the moment. Earlier rumours said the display panel is sourced from either LG Display or Japan Display, but that’s still a mystery.

Other rumoured specs are also top-notch. In keeping with the latest trend, the back of the phone is said to have a fingerprint sensor. The camera is expected to be a 13-megapixel shooter with an f/1.8 aperture and there’s a 5-megapixel camera expected on the front. Given these powerful specs, Vivo will only pack in a 3,000 mAh battery. As ridiculous as it sounds, even that big battery unit might not be enough given the 2K display. Of course, now that we have the first 2K display phone, it won’t be long before we see many more. Samsung is already rumoured to be using a 2K AMOLED panel for the Galaxy S5 in 2014. Let the 2K madness begin.
