O2 has unveiled a new range of 4G tariffs on its Refresh (Pay Monthly) and Simplicity (SIM Only) plans, with plans starting at £17 a month.
The mobile operator's Refresh 4G ready airtime tariffs range from £17 a month for 1GB of data, to £27 a month for 8GB, while the 4G Simplicity tariffs start from £21 for 1GB of data, and go up to £36 a month for 8GB of data.
The operator stressed that these new tariffs will not just benefit new customers and existing O2 customers on a 3G contract with at least 1GB of data on a 4G-ready handset will be able to transfer to a 4G tariff for no extra cost. Current 4G customers that purchased their contracts direct from O2 will receive a boost to their monthly data allowance with no change to their monthly bill.
"Customers on an existing contract with a 3G handset do not have to wait until the end of their current mobile contract to get 4G – they can upgrade to a 4G device and O2’s new O2 Refresh contract and get 25 per cent off their remaining line rental," O2 said.
The plans offer customers the flexibility to get a new phone "whenever they want", according to O2 as, with its Refresh plans, customers choose how much they want to pay for their handset, between £5 and £15 a month.
This summer O2 launched its 4G network and after 11 weeks, the operator reports it has switched on 4G in 13 cities and over 140 surrounding towns, hitting its 2013 rollout target six weeks ahead of schedule.
