Apple sends out invites for October 22 event, likely to unveil new iPads

And it’s now official! Apple has begun sending out invites for the event it will be holding in San Francisco on October 22 to announce some new products. The event basically has the company saying, “We still have a lot to cover.” The invite features a close up of the Apple logo set against a white background along with a bunch of colourful apple leaves. This time around, the event won’t be about new phones, but will likely focus on the new iPad and iPad mini that a host of leaks and rumours have been hinting at. Also likely to be launched is the new OS that Apple spoke about at WWDC, OS X 10.9 Mavericks. The list might also include the new MacBook Pro and possibly the new Mac Pro we caught a glimpse of back in July. There is speculation that we might get to hear about a new Apple TV, and possibly even the new smartwatch that the company has been working on too.

The primary focus, though, is expected to be the iPad, with both of Apple’s models undergoing a revamp. Earlier reports indicated that the new models will be taking cues from each other in terms of design. While photos have hinted at a slimmer, narrower 9.7-inch iPad that looks a lot like last year’s iPad mini, we can also expect to see a new 7.8-inch mini with a Retina display. It is also expected that the company will integrate its new Touch ID fingerprint sensor to the new line-up as well as the 64-bit A7 processor. While the event is being held in the US, a new report by 9to5Mac suggests that the company may be planning to stream the keynote to a separate London satellite event for media members not based in the US. The satellite event is slated to start at 11:30PM IST. Strangely, here is still no word on what time the US-based event will kick off, yet. The report also corroborates our expectations of the Apple event, with the speculated list including all the suspected products.

All in all, it looks like Apple has a lot planned for the end of the month. It should be interesting to finally have a look at the redesigned tablets, as well as the host of products that the company may be working on. Stay tuned to get all the news that will be generated from the event.
