WD has now announced the release of the world’s first SSD+HDD dual drive – Black2. The storage option fuses a 120GB SSD with a 1TB hard disk drive in a 2.5-inch form factor. The company has positioned the dual drive as the perfect solution for consumers and service providers looking to upgrade notebooks, small form factor desktops and All-in-One (AIO) systems with both SSD level performance and HDD capacity. The Black2 dual drive connects through a single cable and fits in a conventional 9.5 mm slot. The company has said that the Black2 will be able to improve overall drive capacity, performance and reliability, while offering users the flexibility to choose how and where their data is stored. Utilising benefits from both flash and magnetic disk, the dual drive offloads data usage from the SSD to the HDD, which increases the endurance and life of the former. Users will also be able to maintain greater data control, which can eliminate the need and expense of cloud-based storage.

Backed by a five-year limited warrant, the Black2 is priced at $299 (Rs 18,700 approx) in the US. The company has said that it will be revealing the pricing and availability for India soon.
