Volvo V60 Polestar confirmed for UK launch

Volvo has confirmed UK availability for the V60 Polestar, but states that it has no plans to release the S60 Polestar in this country.

Part of a cooperative agreement between motorsport specialist Polestar and Volvo, the new Volvo V60 Polestar is based - as the name suggests - on Volvo's latest V60 design but features numerous upgrades designed by Polestar following significant development and testing. These upgrades include a more rigid chassis, 80 per cent stiffer springs with tailored high-performance Öhlins shock absorbers and 20in Polestar wheels along with improved brakes featuring 371mm ventilated front discs and six-piston Brembo calipers.

Externally, the new V60 Polestar features minor changes over the stock V60 in order to improve airflow: front splitters optimize the flow of air under the vehicle, while a new rear spoiler and diffuser increase down force. Internally, the V60 Polestar includes new materials and Polestar-specified colors, and changes in the seating and steering wheel to improve driver support and control.

The engine, too, has been overhauled with the stock six-cylinder T6 turbo-charged model now featuring a twin-scroll turbo and intercooler to boost power output to 350hp at 5,700rpm with 500Nm of torque at 2,800rpm. An all-new 2.5in stainless steel exhaust system is also included, providing drivers with a deeper and throatier engine note.

"We are all very excited and proud over our launch of two new cars as yet another step towards a range of Polestar Engineered Volvo cars available for people like us around the world" claimed Polestar chief executive Christian Dahl at the unveiling. "To do it together with Volvo, one of the world’s leading car manufacturers, is greatly satisfying and we look forward to an exciting future."

The Volvo V60 Polestar is due to launch in the UK in June next year, with pricing yet to be confirmed. The Polestar-tweaked S60, meanwhile, will be exclusive to North America, Japan, Sweden, The Netherlands and Switzerland with no UK launch.
