Toyota eBay store launched for spares, parts and accessories

Toyota has announced that it is to sell parts and accessories for own-brand and Lexus vehicles through online auction site eBay, as part of a move to boost its customer base and turn buyers away from third-party products.

Toyota already offers genuine parts and accessories through its Toyota Center and Lexus Center Network storefronts, but is making the move to eBay as the result of what it claims is an annual total of around £15 million in Lexus and Toyota parts being sold through the auction site each year.

The official Toyota eBay store won't replace the Center Network, however: the company has confirmed that it plans to run both sales outlets side-by-side, in the hope that customers buying parts through its eBay store can be gently introduced to the Center Network for future purchases - where, naturally, Toyota will make a larger profit.

"Opening our new e-commerce channels helps us make genuine Toyota and Lexus parts and accessories available to a much wider customer base" claimed Steve Settle, Toyota's director of customer services, at the announcement. "Working alongside our Centers, they will help us maximize our business while providing customers with an alternative, convenient purchase method."

The Toyota eBay store will initially focus on the parts most commonly needed during servicing and repairs of four to eight year old vehicles as well as consumables including touch-up paint, lubricants and polishes - all guaranteed to be colour-matched and compatible with the company's vehicle ranges. Should the site prove a popular sales outlet, the company has pledged to increase the parts on offer. Pricing has been set to matc
