More than 1 million Xbox One units sold in first 24 hours

Microsoft has joined the same club as Sony in announcing that it has sold more than a million Xbox Ones within the first 24 hours of its launch. Oddly enough, many had expected the number to be much higher than Sony's if the fact that Microsoft's console was released to a much larger market than the PlayStation 4's North America-only launch. According to Microsoft's statement, though, the Xbox One has set a record for first-day Xbox sales and is sold out at most retailers.“We have the best community of gamers around the world, and this was on full display last night,” said Marc Whitten, Chief Product Officer of Xbox when the console hit stores. “The launch of Xbox One is truly Day One. Today is the beginning of the future of entertainment, and we could not be more proud to deliver Xbox One to fans around the world.”

The Xbox One was launched alongside a number of exclusive titles, including Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Killer Instinct and Zoo Tycoon. It also got some cross-platform games at day one, such as Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts and FIFA 14. The future of the Xbox One includes games like Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark and Titanfall. While the console has hit its first 13 markets, including half of Europe, North America and Australia, there is still no word on when it will be making its way to India. We expect to be available here some time in 2014.
