Mercedes C-Class 2014 redesign images leak ahead of launch

Leaked pictures have offered the first full glimpse of the as-yet unannounced Mercedes C-Class 2014 model year design, following earlier snapshots of a pre-production prototype in its camouflaged test track livery.

The vehicle, which Mercedes is claimed to be formally announcing at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2014, is designed to improve on the outgoing C-Class models with boosted performance, better efficiency, lower emissions and better comfort with more room for both the driver and rear passengers.

Externally, the Mercedes C-Class 2014 enjoys a few relatively minor tweaks - many borrowed from the company's existing flagship model ranges - along with LED running lights surrounding the main light clusters. Leaked specifications include claims of being at least 70kg lighter than the outgoing model and the promise of 1.6 litre, 2.0 litre and 3.0 litre petrol engines ranging from 182bhp to an impressive 329bhp along with a highly efficient 2.2 litre diesel.

Internally, the redesign is claimed to include a new dashboard with a choice of 7in display in the entry-level models or the company's impressive COMAND system as an optional upgrade expected to become standard in higher-level trims. Additional options are claimed to include a head-up display projected onto the windscreen and a 'smart' environmental control system which automatically switches to sealed recirculation mode when the car enters a tunnel.
