LG G Pad 8.3 confirmed for the UK, coming before Christmas

expertreviews.co.uk-siena -

LG has confirmed that it will be bringing the G Pad 8.3 to the UK in time for Christmas, marking a return to the tablet market for the Korean manufacturer.

The G Pad 8.3, which we first saw at August's IFA show in Berlin, is set to compete with the likes of Google's recently refreshed Nexus 7 and Apple's iPad Mini with what LG is calling the "world's first 8in tablet with a Full HD 1,920x1,200 resolution display".

The company has done plenty of research to find the ideal size to hold a tablet comfortably in one hand, settling on an 8.3in panel with tiny 7mm bezels and onscreen buttons rather than physical ones. The rear of the tablet is also made from aluminium, rather than the plastics we often associate with Android tablets.

Inside, you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor running at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, along with a 5-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel webcam. That's surprisingly less powerful than LG's G2 smartphone, but faster than the Nexus 7. The tablet runs Android 4.2.2, with LG's custom user interface on top.

"The introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 is another great step in design and technology from LG and shows that the G Series is going from strength to strength," Andy Coughlin, LG UK's Head of Mobile, said of the announcement. "Just like the LG G2, the G Pad 8.3 delivers cutting-edge technology in a slim and sleek form, and is just the product for our re-entry into the UK tablet market".

The G Pad 8.3 will be available in the UK exclusively through distributor Micro P, with an RRP of £259.99, although which retailers end up taking the tablet on remains to be seen. We'll hopefully be bringing you a full review in the run up to launch.
