Google's 'Nexus Watch' expected to be unveiled along with Nexus 5

Google is getting ready to enter the smartwatch game with its much-anticipated ‘Nexus Watch’. According to 9to5Google, the smartwatch is apparently in the final stages of production, and will supposedly be unveiled soon. AndroidPolice’s Artem Russakovskii believes that the smartwatch will be unveiled alongside Android 4.4 KitKat and the next iteration of the Nexus smartphone. The Nexus Watch will reportedly make heavy use of Google’s own Now service, much like Google Glass does. With Google Now, users will be able to, for example, push a button and ask a question and instantly get a response. To connect to the Internet, the smartwatch will tether on to the user’s Android smartphone. The watch will also be able to instantly push Google Now notifications to its display.

Currently, Google is supposedly working on putting the finishing touches on the Nexus Watch, with features including a longer battery life and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, which would give the smartwatch the ability to use Bluetooth LE to tether to a smartphone. LE stands for Low Energy, and has a considerably lower amount of battery consumption than regular Bluetooth. There is currently no word on whether the Nexus Watch will sport any biometric sensors.Once the Nexus Watch is unveiled, Google will enter into a direct competition with companies like Sony (with its SmartWatch 2) and Samsung (with its Galaxy Gear). Apple might also be getting into the ring soon with its much-rumoured iWatch, which is expected to sport biometric sensors to appeal more towards fitness buffs.
