Rockstar has released patches for Grand Theft Auto Online, the post-launch multiplayer mode for GTA 5, but warns that losses made in-game as a result of bugs may be permanent.
GTA 5 entered the record books as the most expensive game ever produced, but rapidly recouped its costs by becoming the fastest-selling title in history. Sadly, that interest had a knock-on effect on the launch of GTA Online, resulting in server issues and connection problems that continue to plague players.
Rockstar has now released patches for the game which it says resolves some of the issues, but warns that in-game assets lost as a result of the bugs in the game may be gone for good. "We have received reports from some players who experienced losing characters, progress, items, and/or in-game cash during the first few days after release," the company explained in a support update to its customers. "We are working diligently to identify and correct the causes for these losses, as well as to establish how best to restore any lost progress and value.
"We have not forgotten about the requests for restoration. We are in the process of determining the options for addressing the issues for those players who have been affected. Please stay tuned for further updates here".
The game's in-game currency, GTA$, forms part of a micro-transaction system which allows players to buy chunks of in-game cash for real-world money. Its rollout since been delayed due to the issues with players' balances being suddenly wiped out by the bugs in the game.
