BlackBerry's attempts to port its popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service to Android and iOS has taken a new twist, with a leak from the company revealing that closed testing is now under way for the cross-platform apps.
According to a recent report from CrackBerry, a redesigned BBM for Android beta has been completed. This code is apparently in the process of been released to "those selected as part of the beta test groups".
The article goes on to note that the majority of BBM fans will still have to wait an unspecified amount of time before they can get their hands on the new apps, even if the move is a nice sign that shows things are still moving ahead - albeit slowly.
"According to some of the emails we've received, the latest beta has some changes in place from previous versions aside from the normal bug fixes.
"A new welcome screen explaining the app notifications is now present, the persistent notification running in the status bar can now optionally be disabled and finally, the UI as a whole has received some more polish."
Despite the good news, no mention was made of a release date for completed code, leaving would-be BBM users on Android and iOS in the lurch until an official announcement is made.
