Apple has announced that it is recalling certain models of the MacBook Air released last year, since it could have a drive that is faulty and needs replacing. If you have purchased a MacBook Air with 64GB or 128GB SSD drive last year or earlier this year, Apple wants to take a look at it. Not all devices are affected though. So the company has also released a firmware update that tests your system for issues with the drive. Apple has said that in case there is an issue with the update, it will replace these flash drives free of cost. Remember, this affects MacBook Airs purchased between June 2012 and June 2013.
Apple recalling last year's MacBook Air
To see if your drive could be affected, you must go on to the Mac App Store, click on Updates and choose MacBook Air Flash Storage Update 1.1. This update will go on to test if your drive has been affected. If it has been, Apple recommends that you do not install any new apps or any operating system updates and back up your data till you receive a replacement drive. You can head on to Apple’s support page to find an Authorised Apple Service Provider in India or to contact Apple’s Technical Support to find a remedy to the faulty drives. Make sure that if you do need to take your device into the Apple Store for a replacement drive, you have backed up your data. Apple also says that if you happened to have paid for a repair or replacement due to this issue, you may be entitled to a refund.
