Samsung adds a dash of gold to the Galaxy S4

Apple’s gold coloured iPhone 5s has created quite a few ripples. A few days after the iPhone maker unveiled its new iPhone line-up, smartphone competitor Samsung has also unveiled its flagship Galaxy S4 in a new gold avatar. The South Korean company has put up images of the Gold Edition smartphone on its United Arab Emirates Twitter feed with the tagline, “Elegance is a touch of Gold”. The company has also put up images of the handset in two other variants, Gold Brown and Gold Pink, on its local Facebook page. While the handsets have been positioned for the Middle East, there has been no word on whether the Gold Edition will be released internationally.

While the move may seem strange for some, it should be noted that the golden avatar of the iPhone 5s found a great deal of popularity among the masses when it was launched. The initial stock supply of the variant sold out within minutes of online and retail stores opening their doors. The shipping date for the variant currently stands somewhere in October. The variant especially found success in the Asian markets, with an aspiring user in Beijing saying, “I don't care what's inside the device. Chinese people like gold.”

While there is no information to confirm the internals of the new Gold Edition of the Galaxy S4, it can be assumed that Samsung will be sticking to the same specifications sheet as was seen in the original. A quick recap shows that the handset comes with a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.Internally, the S4 comes with a quad-core Exynos 5 Octa SoC and 2GB of RAM. The device comes with a 13-megapixel camera with auto focus as well as an LED flash.
