The TEST CRICKET was started in 1877 and on 21-JULY-2011 , it will reach a landmark of 2000 test matches.
This 2000th test will be played between INDIA & ENGLAND at LORD's . It is also the 100th test between both countries.
The first test was played between ENGLAND & AUSTRALIA at MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND , SYDNEY in 1877. AUSTRALIA won this test by 45 runs.

The first run and first century was made by Charlse Banerman.
The first bowler to reach 100 wicket mark was english spinner Johny B in 1895.
Australian batsman Billy M made first double hundred in 1884.
The first hat-trick was taken by austraian bowler Fred S in 1879.
1959654 runs have been made in 1999 tests which include 3450 centuries whereas 61175 wickets fallen which include 7554 ducks , so the average runs per wicket is 32 runs.
Out of 1999 tests , 1299 tests have won, 698 drawn and 2 tied, of the matches won- 347 have been by an innings, 443 by runs, 508 by wickets and 1 was ferfeited.
Landmarks- 500th test in 1960, 1000 in 1984, 1500 in 2000, now 2000 in 2011.
Most tests has been played by ENGLAND-911 after that AUSTRALIA-730, WEST INDIES-473 and INDIA-451.
Most tests are played between ENGLAND and AUSTRALIA - 326, whereas other teams are far behind.
