Xolo Q3000 - Full phone specifications

Xolo Q3000 -

Xolo is trying to move into a new premium space with the launch of its Q3000 smartphone. While most of its launches have been products in the range of Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 12,000, this new device is one of the company's most expensive ever, with a launch MRP of Rs. 20,999. To justify that price tag, Xolo is throwing in the kind of banner features that everyone else is advertising in their own flagship phones today: a full-HD 1920x1080-pixel screen, large battery, quad-core processor, and camera that's sensitive in low light.
International brands that sell phones with such specifications ususally price them at Rs. 35,000 or more, so we're curious to see whether Xolo is actually trying to match their performance, or is simply offering something that appears to tick all the right boxes but doesn't perform as well in the real world.
Look and feel
The Q3000 arrived for testing in a very smart-looking white box. The front is mostly unadorned, but the back has a list of features and highlights. The box slides open with a light pull, and the phone itself sits right on top. Beneath it is a compartment that holds the bundled flip case and screen guard, and below that are two more compartments which contain the battery, USB-OTG dongle, charger, headset, and printed quick start booklet. It's all very neatly presented, which made us even more eager to put the phone through its paces.
The Q3000 itself is unmistakably a mass-manufactured Android phone. You definitely wouldn't mistake it for a Samsung or HTC phone. Little things, like the rubberized plastic finish of the rear cover and the plastic assembly around the camera lens and ports, look a bit cheap. Construction quality is fairly solid, though. We had no complaints with the buttons or the way the phone is put together.
The rear cover peels off when you pry it a bit with a fingernail. You have to work your way around the edges of the phone to release five or six clasps before the entire thing pops off. Beneath the cover is a cavernous space for the phone's 4,000mAh battery, in addition to slots for two SIM cards and a micro-SD storage card. Strangely, the primary SIM card slot takes only the older mini-SIM size but the secondary slot needs a micro-SIM.
As with most phones this size, the power/standby button has been moved to the upper right edge, approximately where your thumb would be if you held the phone in your right hand. The volume rocker is exactly opposite it, and there's nothing else on the sides. The headset jack and micro-USB port are on the top, while the bottom is blank. In another strange design decision, the primary microphone for voice calls is on the back. The phone's tapered edge means it's still pointed downwards, but we're going to have to test for ourselves whether or not this is a problem.
100_0688rs_241314_171342_4227.jpgFeatures
Xolo really has tried to pack everything it can into the Q3000. It's billed as a non-stop entertainment device, so the first thing we need to check is the screen. Thankfully, Xolo has used an excellent panel. The full HD resolution of course means that every little detail is crisp and clear. Colours are clean, but a little muted. We were especially pleased with the viewing angles. Of secondary importance is the sound, and it's here that we were disappointed. The phone's speaker is just not powerful enough at all. It's surprisingly soft even at full volume, and we weren't impressed at all with the quality and depth we of what were able to hear.
There isn't much to get excited about with the Q3000's camera. When seen at their full resolution of 4864x2736, photos are grainy and artefacted. Thankfully there's enough headroom to scale them down, which definitely improves their sharpness. There's an HDR mode which works quite well, exposing areas in shadow alongside those in bright light. Nighttime performance, however, is a whole different story. The flash barely made a difference in poorly lit areas, and there wasn't much of the scene we could make out at all.IMG_20140124_210750.jpgIMG_20140124_155357.jpg (Click here to see full size.)
Videos are recorded in 3GP format. At 1080p, these were sharp enough for us. Focusing was a bit laggy, but otherwise we had no complaints.
Software
The Q3000 runs Android 4.2.1, which is quite old now. We're not sure that this phone's target audience will care all that much about such details, but it's worth noting for future compatibility issues. There isn't much modification to the basic Android OS, but Xolo has bundled a few apps. Xolo Power is a neat tool for monitoring the health of the battery. It shows how much time you're likely to have left for various tasks such as audio playback and 3G browsing, and also reports whether the general health of the battery has deteriorated. On another tab, you get quick access to battery saving features such as a Night Mode and Sync Frequency. The last mode actually has nothing to do with the battery: it shows you how active each of the four CPU cores is, and shows you which applications have crashed recently.
Xolo Q3000 Xolo Secure is an anti-theft and security app that lets you remotely track your phone, make it sound an alarm, wipe out all personal data, and take photos of anyone who tries to unlock it. If the phone's SIM card is changed, the app will send alerts to up to two preregistered numbers and your email address. The app itself can be locked down with a 6-digit PIN. Finally, while Google automatically backs up contacts, the app promises to also back up your SMS and call history databases.
Another interesting touch is what Xolo calls "one-handed mode". With a long press on the Back button at any point, the entire interface shrinks to about two-thirds its size and appears to run inside a window. You can drag this window around the screen, which remains black. It's designed to help people reach all corners of the screen when holding the device in one hand, which is an admirable thought. However, the windowed mode is extremely sluggish. It feels like we're running a remote-access session to a phone somewhere far away. You really can't get much done in this mode, which makes us question the way in which it has been implemented.
Performance and battery life
The Mediatek MTK6589T that powers the Xolo Q3000 isn't exactly the newest or most powerful piece of silicone available. It was launched in late 2012, and even then, it wasn't at the top of the heap. It's based on ARM's relatively low-powered Cortex A7 processing core, which was specifically designed for low-power, low-intensity applications. Graphics are handled by an integrated PowerVR SGX544 GPU: again, not exactly cutting-edge technology.
As a result, the benchmark scores are not impressive at all. In fact, the performance numbers across most of our tests indicated that this phone performs barely half as well as today's high-end phones from mainstream brands. CPU performance wasn't all that bad: we recorded scores of 15,130 in AnTuTu and 5,832 in Quadrant. Graphics performance, on the other hand, was quite abysmal. The phone managed to push out only 3.4 frames per second in the GFXbench test, and 1,879 in 3DMark's Ice Storm Extreme test.
By now, our expectations had been tempered and so the video playback test results weren't a surprise. The Q3000 was able to handle video files in various formats at resolutions up to 720p, but 1080p was completely unwatchable. Some of our test files didn't play at all, others were completely mangled, and only one played with heavy stuttering. It's a bit jarring for a device to not be able to play video at its own native resolution - and that includes videos recorded with the phone's own camera.
Screenshot Xolo Q3000 The scores show that the hardware simply isn't up to the task of pushing anything more intensive than simple 2D graphics on the full-HD screen, which is a shame. You won't notice much of a problem if you only run basic apps, but modern games are pretty much out of the question.
Despite the massive 4,000mAh battery, we were surprised that our video loop test ran for only six hours and twenty minutes. We've had phones with similar screens and smaller batteries last for well over 10 hours under exactly the same conditions.
Verdict
The Q3000's price will attract some of the buyers who were looking at Samsung and HTC's larger offerings but were put off by the high cost. If you only want a big-screened phone for the sake of having a big screen, you'll be happy with this phone. Not only is the size impressive, but the full HD resolution gives it a sharpness that other models with 720p screens can't compare to. However, having an HD screen in this case won't mean you get to enjoy HD content.
With a lower-grade panel, Xolo could have put out a much better balanced phone at a lower price. We won't deny that the screen looks fantastic, so if you want your apps to look good and aren't concerned with movies and games, there's nothing stopping you from buying this phone.

First time, in India any device got a device (mobile) having Tegra 3 chipset. This brilliant device comes with ultimate features that we will be discussing soon. 4.7 inches of big screen will make many people to buy and this device is the competitior of Micromax A210 Canvas 4. The cache system is also good, you can get (32KB / 32KB) per core. The RAM does not match the specification of processor. XOLO T1000 features you dazzling 8 MegaPixels BSI (back side illumination) of camera and 2 MegaPixels of front camera. You can capture videos at 1080p HD. According to nVidia, you can zoom up to 16x but I think this device will have 4x zoom. You get some other features in camera like Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance, Auto Focus, Lens Shading 9th Order, De-Mosaic, Sharpening, Programmable De-Noise. For video recording, you get Video stabilization and that you get for images too (Optical image stabilization). Some encoding available for audio are AAC, LCAAC+, eAAC+, PCM/WAV, AMR-NB, AMR-WB and in decoding you can get AAC-LC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, MP3 VBR, WAV/PCM, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, BSAC, MPEG-2 Audio, Vorbis, WMA 9, WMA Lossless, WMA Pro, G.729a *, G.711 *, QCELP *, EVRC * (note: you can SOME of them by 3rd party applications on Play Store.) You do not get bluetooth, wi-fi, 3G, 2G, GPS in this device. But you do not get DUAL-SIM in this device so obviously, most of people won't buy this. You get many sensors in this device like Accelerometer, Magnetometer, Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor Every device has something poor!

Running on latest (officially) Android 4.2 JellyBean OS by Google. It comes with 512 MB RAM so you can enjoy your endless music and games. It comes with 4 GB internal memory for your applications, games, songs, video and other things. It's mind has Quad-Core MediaTek processor which is clocked at 1.2 Ghz, in short, super fast. If the RAM was 1 GB, it would be competitor of Micromax A210 Canvas 4. For capturing pictures, it has a camera (OMG! :P) of 5 MegaPixels and front camera (for capturing pictures of yourself :P) is 0.3 MegaPixelsVGA which might not capture good pictures. You can enjoy 3G/2g/Wi-Fi and other common connectivity options with this device. This handset is juiced with 2000 mAh battery, so it might run your games (HD ones!) till 2-3 hrs, what you say!

Download New Android 4.3 camera and gallery app emerges

It was rumoured that Android 4.3 will be launched with the stock HTC One version, but there was no trace of the new version of Android when the device was launched recently. Recently the camera interface for the Android 4.3 was leaked by someone having 4.3 running on a Nexus 4 at a Thai expo. The new UI was supposed to come with Android 4.3, instead Google has decided to put some new features of Android 4.3 on these phones instead of the complete new update. Now, we have the apk and you can install it in any device just like you install any application.By themobilehub
Screenshot_2013-06-27-16-39-12       Screenshot_2013-06-27-16-39-24
This interface was captured in video which can be seen below. The following video is from Thai expo.

The difference is not much, but the settings and options are easier to access with gestures and placement of your fingers. Also once you grab a picture, small preview icon appears on the right and disappears slowly. The earlier camera interface had a circular options to access settings and changes to the pictures to be taken. The gallery app has not changed, but the sliding has become much more smoother in filmstrip view. Photosphere has also been improved and many of the bugs have been eradicated. Now, if you have a phone with Android 4.0 or above you should go ahead and check the app out yourself by downloading the apk from the link below.

NEW MOBILE: Xolo Q700 review

xolo-q700-front-635.jpg

Xolo has recently started offering affordable quad-core smartphones under its 'Q series'. The first smartphone in this series was the Xolo Q800. Recently the company added the Q700 to the list. The Xolo Q700 is priced at Rs. 9,999 and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean).

In this review we try to find out whether this smartphone is a worth the bucks or has Xolo cut corners to deliver a sub-Rs. 10,000 offering.

Hardware/ Design
Xolo as a company is known for launching good looking smartphones such as Xolo X1000 and Xolo A1000. We were pleasantly surprised that the company did not comprise on the design and build quality for their under Rs. 10,000 smartphone either.

The Xolo X700 does not offer a path breaking design, sporting a rectangular frame with rounded corners. It comes with 4.5-inch qHD display, which has an edge-to-edge glass. The smartphone seems to be just the right size, neither too large nor too small. The device is 10.2mm thick, so it is not going to fit in the category of the size zero smartphones doing the round. The smartphone weighs 151.3 grams but does not feel too heavy.
xolo-q700-battery-635.jpg

The body of Xolo Q700 is made primarily of plastic and its back has a rubberised finish, which helps in giving this smartphone a premium look and also makes it easy to hold.

The volume rocker is placed on the right panel while the power/ standby button is on the left panel. The top panel houses the USB port and 3.5mm jack. The front panel also has three capacitive buttons for Menu, Home and Back. However, these buttons are not backlit, which makes them difficult to use in dark.

Display
The Xolo Q700 comes with 4.5-inch qHD (540 x960 pixels) OGS IPS display capable of showing 16M colours.

The resolution and the viewing angles are good for a smartphone worth Rs. 10,000. You can easily read texts, browse pictures and watch YouTube videos on this screen.

Xolo-switch.jpg

Under sun visibility on the Xolo Q700 is average and the screen used in this smartphone is reflective. The downside of this screen is that it is a finger print magnet and even prone to scratches. However, the company has bundled in a screen guard along with the purchase of this smartphone.

The touchscreen on the Xolo Q700 is fairly responsive.

Camera
The Xolo Q700 packs in a 5-megapixel rear camera with Back Side Illumination (BSI) sensor. The pictures captured through this camera in the broad day light are good. The images are sharp and the colour reproduction seems to be good.

However, the same cannot be said for the low-light shots. The camera is also capable of capturing videos at 720p HD resolution, which are of average quality.

The smartphone also comes with 0.3-megapixel front camera for capturing self-images and doing video chats. The images clicked through the same are grainy.

Software/ Interface
The Xolo Q700 runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) out of the box. Hence, one can enjoy many features such as lock screen widgets, Day dream, Quick Settings, et al, which are not available on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

There are five customisable home screens to fill with apps and widgets. The lock screen and the setting menu of the Xolo Q700 looks pretty much like on any other stock Android smartphone. However, the app categories on this smartphone have been tweaked slightly. The apps are listed under four major heads Main, Apps, Games and Widgets, as opposed to having just two main categories for Apps and Widgets.

The company has not pre-loaded many apps on this smartphone but one can download all that you need from the Google Play store. Xolo has bundled in some of its own apps such as Xolo Care, Xolo Power, Xolo Secure and Xolo Switch on this smartphone.

The Xolo Care app was also pre-installed on some of the previous Xolo smartphones that we have reviewed. Its primary function is to help access the customer care in a jiffy. However, the apps Xolo Power and Xolo Switch have been introduced for the first time with this smartphone.

With the help of the Xolo Power app you can manage the battery of the Xolo Q700 in a better fashion. The Xolo Power app gives an estimated battery back that the user will get based on the applications that are currently running. It also suggests the battery you can save by cutting one or more apps or connectivity options. The app also comes with a 'Low battery mode'. If you enable this mode, then the smartphone will disables Wi-Fi, data GPS, Bluetooth and reduces screen brightness to converse battery, when the battery is about to drain off.

As the name suggests Xolo Secure app is an app that helps in keeping your smartphone protected. It helps in locking your smartphone and to track it remotely in case it is lost.

With the help of the Xolo Switch app, you can create multiple profiles on the smartphone and easily switch between them. The app also comes with a kid mode, which can be switched on.

The smartphone also comes with an app called Kids Tube, which filters content on YouTube and only shows content fit to be viewed by children.

Performance/ Battery Life
The Xolo Q700 is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589M processor with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. The smartphone also packs in 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, out of which 2.70 GB is user accessible.

The smartphone functions smoothly while performing routine tasks and navigating through menus. The smartphone is also capable of handling a bit of multi-tasking. Playing popular games such as Subway Surfer, Temple Run 2 and Fruit Ninja is a pleasant experience.

The Xolo Q700 comes with a native Android browser, which renders web pages well.

The Xolo Q700 is also does a good job playing back audios and videos from the microSD card. The audio quality through speakers is good but average through headphones. The native video player on board did not support MP4 videos. However, this problem can be fixed by downloading an app from the Google Play.

The call quality on the smartphone is satisfactory.

The smartphone features a 2,400mAh battery, which we think gives an impressive battery backup. Based on our usage, the smartphone is easily able to last almost a day and half on a single charge. With medium to heavy usage, including 2-2.5 hours of phone calls, about 30 minutes of Skype call, one Gmail account with push notifications, screen at maximum brightness, Twitter and Facebook notifications and WhatsApp chats, the Xolo Q700 lasted good 30-31 hours.

It's also worth pointing out that we had turned on Wi-Fi and switched off auto-brightness. Altering these settings and using the Xolo Power app might help in running the phone for a longer duration, depending on your usage pattern.

Verdict
In our mind the Xolo Q700 is a great value for money proposition. The smartphone offers a good battery backup, looks sophisticated for a Rs. 10,000 phone and has a decent display. The only real disappoint for this smartphone comes from the camera department, which does not perform too well especially in low light.

If you are looking for options other than the Q700, you might want to check out the Sony Xperia E dual (Review | Pictures). This smartphone has a better brand name but you will have to comprise in screen size and battery performance.

You can also check out Micromax's Canvas 2 (Review | Pictures) and Karbonn S1 Titanium. However, Karbonn S1 Titanium (Review ) is about a Rs. 1,000 more expensive than the Xolo offering.

Pros

Good design and build
Good battery back-up
Cons
