PS4 Battlefield 4 patch delayed for 'additional testing'

Battlefield developer DICE has delayed a planned patch for first-person shooter Battlefield 4 on the PS4 to an unspecified future date as the company attempts to fix bugs and game-breaking issues.

Some of the problems surrounding the game can be fairly said to be out of DICE's hands, with a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) taking down the company's servers, but others are leading to complaints on the official support forum. Problems range from crashes and poor performance to a bug which causes a player to die from a single bullet wound even when the damage done should be nowhere near enough for such an outcome.

The PC version of the game has already received a hefty 1GB patch to resolve at least some of the problems, with DICE saying that patches for the console releases would arrive some time this week. These, however, have hit a last-minute delay with the company announcing late last night that the first of the console patches, for Sony's PS4, has now been rescheduled due to the requirement for 'additional testing.'

Battlefield 4 is a cross-platform endeavour, released for Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. All the console versions, both last-generation and current-generation, are believed to require a patch, but it seems that DICE is having a few problems getting the update ready. This is also delaying the release of the first downloadable content (DLC) pack, China Rising, which was bundled with some copies of the game.

DICE has so far not confirmed whether the additional testing will mean a delay to the other console patches, which, aside from the Xbox 360 version, which has not been given a release date, were due to arrive some time this week.
