Google reportedly prepping Android 4.4.1 KitKat update already

Even while most recent Android devices are still waiting to make the jump from the older Jelly Bean to the tastier Android 4.4 KitKat update, news has it that Google is already prepping the Android 4.4.1 update. The usual suspects, the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and the Nexus 7 are reportedly in line to receive the first major KitKat update soon. 9to5Google says that it has spotted all of these three Nexus devices in its analytics running the mysterious Android 4.4.1 KitKat version. The first of these sightings occurred back on November 15, not too long after KitKat 4.4 was released. These visits, however, were very scattered.

Visits from devices running Android version 4.4.1 reportedly originated from Google’s home base in Santa Clara, California. These visits have increased significantly in the past few days. Besides these Android devices, an unknown device running the mystery Android update had also been registered. A couple of days ago, HTC ROM developer LLabToofeR took to Twitter to reveal that HTC One GE is to receive the 4.4.1 update in the “near future”. This will come as firmware version KOT49E, he said.

Of course, it may be a tad too early to talk about the Android 4.4.1 update, considering that Android 4.4 KitKat has not made its way to most devices yet. It is currently available for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 as well as Nexus 10 devices. It is also making its way out to Moto X devices and Google Play Edition smartphones. An update to KitKat would be a good idea at this point of time considering that even the pretty smooth running Android 4.4 is seeing a spurt in bugs.
