Battlefield developer DICE has released patches for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 releases of Battlefield 4, designed to fix a range of problems with the game.
The latest entry in the Battlefield series, which goes head-to-head with rival Activision's Call of Duty franchise, has had a rough launch: the servers were hit by a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in November, preventing gamers from playing online, and a patch for the PS4 version was delayed for additional testing when it was discovered that issues with the game ran deeper than first thought. Eventually, complaints rose to a level where EA was forced to halt all expansion development to concentrate on fixing the main game.
Now, EA appears to be making good on that promise with updates for three of the four console releases - excluding only the Xbox One release, for reasons that have not been released. Designed to address player complaints, the patches include fixes for a problem known as 'kill trade' where a player on a high-latency connection can kill another player even after his or her own death, crashes that disconnect players from game servers, graphical glitches, audio problems, cheats to instantly win at various game modes, and bugs that left players stuck at various in-game screens with no way to continue without resetting the game.
"We at DICE have a long tradition of supporting our games and our community well after the release of a title. While millions of players are enjoying Battlefield 4, we are aware that some players are experiencing issues with the game," DICE's Tommy Rydling said of the patches. "While some platforms have had only minor problems, others have had more than their fair share of issues. Resolving these is our #1 priority."
