Xolo has teamed up with Broadcom to power its next smartphone. Broadcom’s turnkey smartphone platform will be used in the new Xolo Q1000 Opus, which will be made available in India later this month.Xolo has tried to break away from the host of Indian manufacturer who have embraced MediaTek's chipsets. After adopting Nvidia's Tegra 3 for the Play T1000, Xolo’s new smartphone leverages Broadcom’s BCM23550 quad core HSPA+ processor, BCM4334 connectivity combo chip and BCM4752 multi-constellation GNSS location chip to deliver a high performance, feature-rich experience at an affordable price. It will allow users to easily stream content over Wi-Fi and simultaneously share HD video, photos and gaming applications to a larger screen via Miracast.

The Xolo Q1000 Opus comes with support for an external Miracast-capable HD display, besides its own 5-inch 720p display. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor and sports GPS/GLONASS, WLAN, MEMs and Cell ID for the best indoor and outdoor geolocation and VideoCore multimedia support for better picture processing. Other aspect such as camera, and software version are also yet to be made official. Broadcom will be competing with MediaTek that dominates the quad-core budget-segment market in India. MediaTek's MT6589 has a similar Cortex A7 quad-core processor. “Driving affordability is the key to tapping into the explosive demand for smartphones in India. Our complete smartphone platform is offered as a complete turnkey solution that allows OEMs to expedite production of full-featured, high-performance Android smartphones while significantly lowering development costs,” said Rafael Sotomayor, Broadcom Vice President, Mobile Platform Solutions. “By combining our powerful quad-core solution with our leading connectivity suite, we’re changing the landscape of India’s smartphone market.
