PS4 video streaming services revealed by Sony

Sony has announced a list of services that will go live in time for the launch of the PlayStation 4 later this month, and although it doesn't include anything to remedy its missing MP3, CD or DLNA support there's plenty to keep gamers amused when they've finished the launch catalogue.

Sony is positioning the PS4 as a more gaming-centric device than rival Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One, which will launch in the UK a week earlier, but it isn't completely ignoring the console's potential as a general entertainment device. Beyond its own Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited streaming services, the company has released a list of third-party applications that will be available at launch.

The PS4 will support video streaming from Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, NHL Game Centre Live, Epix, Redbox Instant, NBA Game Time, Vudu, Crunchy Roll, YuppTV, and Hulu Plus, the company has confirmed. Sadly, availability will vary by region, with UK gamers likely to only receive a subset of the services available to those buying a PS4 in the US.

Sony's PS4 is due to launch in the UK on the 29th of November, one week after the Xbox One. Early indications are that Sony has a lead with gamers, thanks to more powerful graphics hardware that allows for higher-resolution gameplay, but Microsoft has a more rounded platform with better support for non-gaming entertainment.
