Atlus has announced a sequel to the wildly successful swan song for the PlayStation 2, Persona 4. Appropriately titled Persona 5, the game will be heading to the PlayStation 3 some time in winter 2014. Seeing how the release date is a whole year after the launch of the PlayStation 4, Atlus seems to be building a reputation for ending console generations on a high note, especially for jRPG lovers. Atlus has released an extremely vague teaser for Persona 5. Check it out:
The previous game in the franchise, Persona 4, was released on the PS2 back in 2007—a full two years after the launch of the PS3. The plot revolves around an ordinary high school student moving into the rural town of Inaba for a year while his parents are abroad. Soon after settling into his new home with his uncle and cousin, a series of impossible murders shake things up. Victims suddenly start disappearing, only for their bodies to be found hanging upside down from telephone poles without any obvious cause of death.Persona 4 was lauded for its deep story and characters along with fixing almost every gripe players had with Persona 3. Most of Persona 3's main features are present in 4, including Social Links and the calendar day system where the players have to manage their school life, social life and demon-killing life. Persona 4 is considered by many to be one of the best jRPGs ever made, and was widely responsible for bringing Atlus to the attention to the mainstream market in the western world. It has often been called the last great game on the PlayStation 2.
