Microsoft puts 'Scroogled' merchandise on sale, takes another shot at Google

Remember Scroogled? Microsoft’s series of digs at Google have been a talking point in the tech world for a while. With its ads targeted towards Google, Microsoft’s parody campaign has been something everyone notices. This time, the company has taken Scroogling a step ahead by launching a store that houses merchandise taking potshots at Google. On sale are items like a baseball-styled cap, coffee mugs, t-shirts and hoodies. Most of these products contain the Google Chrome logo or the very familiar colour scheme of Google’s logo. Pop-culture has been pulled in to drive home Microsoft’s point. The coffee mug reads, “Keep calm while we steal your data”. The cap contains just the words “Scroogled” in the Google font, and a t-shirt with a word cloud with “over 20 synonyms for how Google is taking advantage of you.”

Anti-Google goodies on the store are priced anywhere between $7.99 for the coffee mug to $25.99 for the Scroogled hoodies. As you run through the website that has a grand total of eight items on sale, you’ll come across some witty descriptions by Microsoft. For example, the hoodie’s description reads, “You might be getting Scroogled, but at least you won’t be cold.” Some descriptions are downright snarky like, “Do you use Google Search? Or Gmail? Or Google Chat? Or Chrome? Then Google is watching you…all the time.” Whether anyone but Microsoft loyalists or Google haters will purchase these items is anyone’s guess. While the aim at Google is pretty straightforward and minces no words, Microsoft may want to ask its apparel manufacturing partner to keep calm and not overproduce since Scroogled is sometimes thought to be in bad taste.
