Dropbox seems to be on a roll. The cloud storage service has not only marked a milestone with 200 million users but also introduced a slew of new features for business users. It has unveiled the new “Dropbox for Business” client that is capable of securely accommodating both personal and work files separately, but under one tabbed interface. Looks like Dropbox wants to convince users that it isn’t just a frilly consumer tool, and is ready take on competitors such as Microsoft, Google, Box and also Amazon’s new WorkSpaces.Dropbox for Business allows users to view their personal files in one tab and work files in another. This can be done without having to use multiple windows. Those users who already have separate business and personal accounts can pair them with the new tool.

Users can also access a new notifications bar that shows alerts from both sets of files or a filter can be used to see only one category. Dropbox has also designed the mobile business client to offer a similar interface to the web for consistency. For developers, it has introduced Chooser and Saver APIs which will let users access any of their files inside third-party apps.
The new update brings some nifty changes for CIOs and IT teams too. The new Sharing Audit Logs feature shows admins exactly which user is sharing content, with who, and when. The update includes security features that can easily block sharing of certain files, and also prevents an employee from having their personal files accessible on their work computer.A feature called Account Transfer will help businesses when they need to remove access to certain files from an employee that’s leaving the company or switching teams. A Remote Wipe feature will ensure that these employees don’t still have access to any of their old business files on any of their devices, and also protects data if a device is stolen. The company is also working on some collaborative tools, which will be introduced in the near future.Dropbox for Business will roll out early next year, but businesses can sign up for early access. However, it hasn’t announced any price change yet.
