URL-shortner startup Bread acquired by Yahoo!

Yahoo! has acquired Bread, a startup that lets people make or generate donations by designing ads that can be shared by its URL shortener. Reportedly, it was Bread who has been looking for buyout as the two and a half year old startup has been low on funds, reports TechCrunch. As a part of the transition, Bread has shut down its core publishing products and its links will go dead in the next 30 days. In fact, Bread has been suggesting that users start switching to the popular bit.ly shortener. So, those who have been using the company’s services have until November 11 to move to different services. Once the deadline approaches, all Bread links will become non-functional.

Alan Chan, Bread’s CEO said in a statement that when Bread was launched in 2011, the goal was to help social media influencers and publishers better monetize their online content. In Yahoo, they now find a company that shares their vision. “We are thrilled to join Yahoo’s advertising team in Sunnyvale where we will be working on developing next-generation solutions for social and mobile publishers and advertisers,” he adds further.Reportedly, Yahoo has confirmed that six engineers and product managers will now join the Bread team. In the last couple of months, Yahoo! has been trying hard to bounce back into business with a series of structural and other changes. We lately saw the company revamp its logo and even bring a Gmail-Like email design to attract users.
