From Samsung launching its smartphone fitted with a curved display to a plethora of phones being made available in the Indian market, the past week seems to be very exciting, especially for mobile fiends. We also saw Google bring its Chromebooks to the Indian, two years after the device category was introduced. Take a quick look at all the news that made up the past week.


Samsung announces Galaxy Round with a curved OLED display Those who have been wondering whether Samsung will launch a smartphone with curved display, here’s some official news. The company has taken the wraps off the Galaxy Round sporting a curved OLED display. It will feature a large 5.7-inch 1080p display, similar to the one seen in the Galaxy Note 3, but the differentiator will be its curved vertical axis.Apple iPhone 5s and 5c coming to India on November 1 Apple has now officially announced that the latest iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will be available in more than a dozen countries including India, on Friday, November 1. There is still no word on the official price tag of the two new devices, although both devices are available online for sale.

Yahoo's Email Becomes More Like Gmail in Redesign Yahoo's free email service is becoming a bit more like Google's Gmail as part of its second makeover in less than a year. HTC launches 4.3-inch Desire 500 in India for Rs 22,290 HTC finally launched its latest smartphone in the mid-range segment earlier this week, the Desire 500, for Rs 21,490 in India. It is available via retail stores across the country.


Samsung drops price of Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 in India Samsung has now dropped the prices of not one but two of its premium mid-range smartphones, namely the Galaxy S4 mini and the Galaxy S3, in India. While the S3 is now priced at Rs 25,400, the S4 mini will set you back Rs 23,360 for the 16GB model. Acer and HP Chromebooks available for pre-order for under Rs 30,000 Google finally brings its Chromebooks to India two years after its launch. The new Acer C720 Chromebook and the HP Chromebook 14 are now available for pre-order via Flipkart. The site will start shipping the devices from October 17 and they appear to be priced pretty well - the Acer C720 at Rs 22,999 and the Chromebook 14 at Rs 26,990.

PC shipments this quarter are at a five-year low After a 10.9 percent slump in the second quarter of 2013, the PC market continues to decline in the third quarter too. According to Gartner, worldwide PC shipments dropped to 80.3 million units in the third quarter of 2013 which is an 8.6 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. In fact, the shipments this quarter are at their lowest since 2008.


Apple plans 100 standalone stores and store-in-stores for smaller cities in IndiaFinally, Apple seems to have diverted its attention towards the Indian market. The company plans to set up 100 exclusive standalone stores under the franchisee model in Tier-II and Tier-III Indian cities and it's looking for franchise partners. The 100 “standalone” stores would be in addition to store-in-store locations that it plans for the country.

HTC One mini up for preorder at Rs 34,999, Desire 500 available for Rs 21,500 The HTC One mini and Desire 500 are up for grabs. Both devices were made available online through several e-retailers. The HTC One mini is available on Snapdeal for Rs 34,999 while sites like Infibeam and Flipkart have put it up for pre-order for Rs 35,054. The Desire 500 is up for grabs on SnapDeal, Infibeam for Rs 20,500, while it is available at around Rs 21,500 through some other sites.

The company was last seen raising $200 million (roughly Rs 1,200 crore) from existing investors in July. The deal was referred to as the single-largest round of funding for an Indian e-commerce company.

LG's 6-inch flexible OLED panel goes under production LG Display announced that it will start mass-production of the world’s first 6-inch flexible OLED panel for smartphones. The new panel will be built on plastic substrates instead of glass, resulting in a display that is less likely to break, and much lighter and thinner than conventional glass displays.
