Tata Sky has recently launched the Everywhere TV app which claims to extend the Tata Sky experience from home television sets to smart phones and tablets. An interesting concept not many DTH operators in the country have tried this. We caught up with Tata Sky to get some dope on what exactly this app all about and some more nitty gritties.

What does the app Everywhere TV do?
It essentially allows you to watch live TV, Videos and Catch Up shows on your iOS mobile device whenever you want from wherever you want. This service can be accessed through the Tata Sky Mobile app available on the iOS app Store.
Is it available on all iOS devices?
The app is available on iOS handsets with OS version 4.3 or higher; Supported on iPhone 3GS & upwards. The app is supported on all iPads and it does not support jail broken devices.
When is it going to be available on android devices?
It should be available on Google Play within 30 days time.
What is the Size of the downloaded app?
Size of the Tata Sky Mobile App on download is around 11-15 MB.

What are the internet speeds that you need to use the app?
The service works on all Internet connections i.e. 4G/3G/EDGE mobile connections or on broadband/ wi-fi internet connections. Minimum speed of 64kbps to stream Live TV/Catch Up TV. However, for better picture quality and viewing experience, speed of 200kbps-1Mbps on wifi is ideal. Also using it on mobile networks will incurr additional cost from the network provider. So it is best that you use the app on wi-fi - as much as possible.
What is the approximate usage in MBs for an hour of usage on Everywhere TV?
Data consumption on watching Everywhere TV for an hour for various bandwidths are as follows.
64k bps – 14.06 MB
100 kbps – 21.97 MB
175 kbps – 38.45 MB
350 kbps – 76.90 MB
500 kbps – 109.86 MB
700 kbps – 153.81 MB
900 kbps – 197.75 MB
1450 kbps – 318.60 MB
Can we see the downloaded videos (that we have on the set top box) in the app?
Yes you can. You can also see downloaded videos or movies offline on the mobile device.
Can we avail the app even if we don’t have a Tata sky connection?
No you cannot. You need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber - You can enjoy the service & channels that have given rights-to-air from the list of channels that you have subscribed irrespective of which set-top box (SD/ HD/ +HD) you use.

Are all the channels available on Everywhere TV?
Currently we have around Channels 60 channels available on Everywhere TV which include a include a mix of Hindi & English entertainment, music, sports & news channels.
Are there any HD channels available on Everywhere TV?
No currently there are no HD channels available on the app. Primarily it is beacuse of the bandwidhth issue. We are trying to figure out a way wherein we can accomodate the high bandwidth requirement of HD videos (on both transmission and reception level). As soon as we get a viable solution we can deploy HD services as well.
How many devices can we use at a time?
Currently you can register only two devices per set-top box at a price of Rs 60 each (admin fee).
What is the maximum time for which one can pause a Live TV program on Everywhere TV?
One can pause shows on Everywhere TV service for a maximum of 5 mins.
