As is convention, Google also announced a new range of accessories for the Nexus 5, which was officially launched in the wee hours of last night. A couple of surprises are in store, especially given the lack of many official accessories for the Nexus 4. Having said that, these won't come cheap. Here’s a look at them. Nexus 5 Bumper CaseJust like the Nexus 4, the ‘5’ also gets bumper cases. But this is not just a bumper in the conventional sense. Usually, these wrap around the sides of the phone, leaving the back and front open, as was the case with the Nexus 4. The new ones, however, cover the back of the phone as well as the side. You will find these in grey, black, and bright red and yellow, reminding us of the Nokia Lumia phones. A neat feature is that the phone can still be wirelessly charged with the bumper case on. That could be a big reason behind the rather high Rs 2,499 price of this bumper case
This is not the Android Nokia Lumia you have been waiting for
Nexus 5 QuickCover CaseWe call this the Samsung blight. Every manufacturer seems to be obsessed with flip covers, after Samsung introduced them with the original Note. It’s a polarising look for sure and our opinion is closer to the ‘Ugly’ pole. Even then Google has decided to have one for the Nexus 5. When flipped open, it wakes up the display and unlocks the phone (unless, we presume, there’s a passcode or another additional security measure). If you thought the ‘naked’ Nexus 5 is a Plain Jane, this one makes Jane look even plainer. The matte black exterior is just boring. This one also allows wireless charging and there's a white colour variant on offer as well. As for the price, this one is available for Rs 3,299, which is very steep indeed.
Google must be 'flipping' mad if it thinks this is worth Rs 3,299
These are the two official accessories announced so far, but we might see a new Nexus 5-specific wireless charging station as that was announced with the Nexus 4. In any case, if you have the older wireless charging puck, then it should work with the Nexus 5 too.
