Sony has announced the launch of the VPL-VW500ES, the latest edition to its line of 4K home cinema projectors (which includes the famous VPL-VW1000ES 4K projector as well). With this launch they once again claim to revolutionise the way we enjoy movies at home by bringing the full immersive cinema experience to the comfort of the home.
Just like the VPL-VW1000ES 4K projector, which was the world’s first 4K projector, the latest VPL-VW500ES also uses the power of its 4K SXRD panels which are capable of producing DCI based 4096 x 2160 resolution. The VPL-VW500ES is also equipped with the latest HDMI 2.0 standard to accommodate 4K/60 fps content, which enables fast action movie sequences to appear smoother without any electronic enhancement of the pixels.
While there is a major shortfall for 4K content currently in the market, Sony has come up with its own innovative way to compensate for the same. The Super Resolution 4K Reality Creation upscaler incorporated in the VPL-VW500ES. More importantly it possesses a 4K up-scaling algorithm that has been exclusively designed for “Mastered in 4K” Blu-ray discs from Sony Pictures Entertainment, enabling home viewers of these Blu-ray discs to enjoy more accurate 4K images.
We are sure that the VPL-VW500ES will not disappoint most videophiles with its 1,700 ANSI-lumen brightness, 200,000:1 contrast ratio and TRILUMINOS display technology. With TRILUMINOS display technology as we have read, will enable the projector to reproduce rich colours. And if you further want to tweak the colour palette then you can also use the on-board manual colour correction tool to customise the hue, saturation and brightness of the picture according to your preferences. Motionflow picture technology also works to deliver clearer, less blurry images when watching fast-paced, cinematic action. This particular feature, we will confirm and acknowledge only after we review the projector.
With any home projector set up, home users are typically concerned with the amount of rear space required for a projector installation. This concern has been addressed with the front air exhaust cooling system of the VPL-VW500ES, which allows home users to maximise the throw distance for a larger projected image without worrying about rear space limitations. Its 2.06 zoom powered lens with a wide shift range also means there is also no need for additional platform extensions in ceiling mounts for installation in rooms with high ceilings. And to add more to the flexibility, a built-in RF transmitter provides further installation flexibility with a strong wireless signal for wider coverage.
The major differences between the VW1000ES and the newly launched VW500ES are that of:
1) Brightness (2000 ANSI for VW1000ES and 1700 ANSI for VW500ES)
2) Contrast ratio (1000000:1 for VW1000ES and 200000:1 ANSI for VW500ES)
3) Light Source (330W UHP for VW1000ES and 265W UHP for VW500ES)
4) Anamorphic Lens Ready (YES for VW1000ES and NO for VW500ES)
This should fairly explain the huge price difference between the two, wherein the
VPL-VW500ES is priced at Rs 7,99,000 and the VPL-VW1000ES is priced at Rs 14,99,900.
The newly launched 4K Home Cinema Projector VPL-VW500ES will be available through authorized distributors and dealers.
