Apple users, who were disappointed that they could not use their iPhones with Sony’s QX10 and QX100 wireless camera lenses properly now have a reason to be cheer up. A Sony representative has now confirmed to AppleInsider that an update from the company’s official PlayMemory Mobile application on iOS is slated to come out in the next few weeks. The update will deal with issues within the software that is causing the lenses to disconnect when paired to a device running iOS 7. Sony has said that the current software experiences “initial compatibility issues” with iOS 7. These issues, however, are expected to be fixed this month. The company has said that the PlayMemories app was meant for iOS 6. The software, in order to work with the new OS, needs to be updated. This will, according to Sony, fix the connection problems.
The source also talks about third-party apps that are being developed to enhance the capabilities of the lenses. Camera360 is reportedly working on an update for its iOS app later this month that will work with both QX models. Sony has also announced an update for the iOS camera app by TapTapTap that will also be rolling out soon. A quick recap of the new QX lenses reveals that both connect wirelessly with an iOS or Android smartphone using Wi-Fi. The pictures taken are sent to the user’s phone from where it can be edited and sent out to other users via email or uploaded to social networks. While the QX10 comes with an 18-megapixel sensor and a Sony G lens with 10X optic zoom. The QX100 comes with a 20.2-megapixel lens featuring a RCMOS Exmor sensor and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens.
