Samsung's Japan-bound Galaxy J spotted

A catalogue of Japanese carrier Docomo's new lineup has revealed Samsung's new device, bearing the name Galaxy J. While there is still no confirmation about global availability of the phone, the leak shows a device that draws inspiration from both the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3. While the new device is said to be a “mini phablet”, it is still unclear as to what Samsung exactly has planned in terms of specs and it is possible that the model in question will not be seen in markets outside Japan. Unconfirmed specifications based on translations by PhoneArena suggest that the new device will come with a 5-inch super AMOLED display offering a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. Interally, the device is said to come with a quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC as well as 3GB of RAM on board.

The device is also said to come with a 13-megapixel primary camera as well as a television tuner to allow users to change channels from their phone. 32GB of internal memory has also been mentioned and the catalog rounds up the offering with a 2600mAh battery. The Galaxy J is supposed to come to the market in three colours, Coral Pink, Satin White and Lapis Blue.

From the images seen, it looks like the Galaxy J might have the 5-inch display, as seen on the Galaxy S4, but it makes use of the rounded edges on the body like the Note 3. It is assumed that the combination is what is giving the device the “mini phablet” moniker. A published report from France also claims that the new device is real, will be water and dustproof, and support LTE networks. The catalog also showed off the smaller version of Sony’s current Android flagship, the Xperia Z1f. The new handset, coming with the codename “Itsuki”, is being offered in black, white, lime green and pink avatars. The internals of the Z1 f looks remarkably similar to its full-sized sibling. There is mention of a Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, the 20.7-megapixel camera as well as IP58 rating for water and dust resistance. The only difference is the display size, which has been downsized to a 4.3-inch 720p panel. There is no official word on when either of the devices will be announced, or which other markets they are headed for.
