Samsung's ads for Galaxy Gear will make you nostalgic

Smartwatches have always signified “the future”. When it came to animated series, movies or even literature, a watch that could talk back to you, enable you to take notes or even make calls to others has been a gadget that many yearn for. Samsung has taken this fascination with smartwatches to promote its Galaxy Gear in a series of ads. One of the ads starts by showing prototypes of smartwatches in popular culture with snippets of the advertisements playing on in the background. Parts from Dick Tracy, Star Trek and even Hanna-Barbera’s much-loved The Jetsons instantly connect with you and make you see why Samsung chose to take this path to promote the smartwatch. The ad ends with a simple “After all these years, it’s finally here,” and you know that Samsung has made an ad worth watching. The second ad in the series too has a similar theme and shows portions from the same shows that show the characters actually using their smartwatches and you can’t help but notice how the Galaxy Gear actually does the same things now. While the ads are high on reminiscence, it’s still going to take a lot more effort from Samsung to be able to peddle the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. With limited third-party app support and minimal device compatibility, Samsung Galaxy Gear may have ushered in a new era for wearables but still may have a hard time making the cut as far as sales are concerned. If you would rather see a more entertaining commercial, you can check out the puppet-shop one by Samsung that shows off not just the Galaxy Gear but also the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 together. This is one advertisement you’re going to remember for being a great visual treat. Oh, and it has a version of Sweet Dreams Are Made of This by Eurythmics running through the background, so you might enjoy this one greatly.
