Nokia's flagship Windows Phone 8 Lumia 1020 cameraphone isn't selling as well as the company had hoped in the the key Chinese market, according to a new industry report.

As a result of poor initial sales, Nokia has been forced to make a "shocking" price cut of around £200 to speed up adoption in the world's largest mobile phone market, according to Phones Review.

"It seems the Chinese are not liking the Nokia Lumia 1020 as much as we thought they would, and because the smartphone is not making a big enough impact in China a price cut has been made. It is shocking to learn that the Nokia Lumia 1020 price cut is already showing up online," the report noted.

The £200 drop might seem huge, but when the Lumia 1020 first went on sale in China it had a "massive" starting price of CNY 5,999, which at current exchange rates works out as £630 before VAT. In the UK, customers can get the handset for free on a two year contract, or around £500 SIM-free.

This price cut now puts China on par with the rest of the world, with customers able to buy a Lumia 1020 for 3,999 Yuan (roughly £420 before VAT)

Even so, the report recommends customers to "wait a few more weeks if you fancy getting your hands on the Lumia 1020" as there's a possibility that prices will drop again. Whether that drop will also come to the UK remains to be seen.
