Joining the smartwatch race is Nokia. Reports have popped up stating that the company had acquired patents for an odd-looking smartwatch that would potentially work well with its Lumia line of smartphones, according to Engadget. What is odd about the smartwatch patent, however, is that it looks closer to a bracelet than a watch.Going by the pictures of the patent, it looks like Nokia’s smartwatch will consist of several segments featuring their own displays. These displays will show different things, such as the time, notifications, emails and text messages. To get to any specific display, all a user has to do is turn the smartwatch.
Smartwatch? More like Smartbracelet, amirite?
The question, however, is whether this will even be released. Nokia has been well known to work on several interesting concepts but not really making any of them. Last year’s Morph concept comes to mind, which was a flexible display that had a bunch of technology that would be more at home in the year 3000.If Nokia does eventually make the smartwatch, it will end up being in direct competition with companies like Sony, Samsung, Nike and Adidas. Even big companies like Google and Apple are said to be working on their own smartwatches.Recently, we saw a leaked picture of a tablet Nokia has supposedly been working on. Dubbed the Lumia 2520, it will run on Windows RT. It will feature the typical Windows design, with a soft Windows key on the front below the display and Nokia's well-known Lumia frame. The tablet, along with Nokia’s Windows Phone 8-running phablet, is slated to be unveiled at the Nokia World Event.
