MapmyIndia has now launched the Explorer app for Windows Phone 8. The renowned location services developer already has a host of digital maps, navigation and tailored services on the platform and the new app is free on the Windows Phone store. Android users will also be able to get the app soon, according to the company. Explore is said to be a one-stop solution for location-based services and allows the user to look for their points of interests either by category or name. This seems fairly basic. Users can find directions to their destination or read reviews to make up their mind. Frequently visited destinations can be marked as favorites for quick access. The app also lists out recommendations across three categories: food & drink, places of interest and hotels.

The recommendations come with detailed information and pictures. There's a showcase section that highlights the top rated destinations. Users can make their own additions to the Explore maps by marking location on the map, thus adding to the points of interests in a city.

As is expected, there's social media integration as well, where users can login to Facebook and post about the interesting places they have come across directly from the app. Users can also put up photos, reviews, follow other users and subscribe to places of interest, and this will automatically be posted on Facebook, etc. All said and done, Explore doesn't seem all that different to some of the exsiting location-based services or apps on the platform and will have a hard time competing against Nokia Here, which is pre-installed on all Windows Phone devices.
