While there has been quite a bit written about the Firefox OS, the new platform has stuck to ultra-basic smartphones like the ZTE Open. LG has now changed that by releasing its first Mozilla-powered handset, the Fireweb. The device measures in at 11.38 x 6.65 x 0.9 in and will be running on Firefox OS 1.1. A quick look at the specifications shows that the device comes with a 4-inch display with a resolution of 480x320 pixels. Internally, the device comes with a single-core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1GHz. The device comes with 4GB of internal memory that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. There is no word on just how far the memory can be expanded. You can have a look at a video demo of the new device below:
In terms of optics, the device comes with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED packed in. this is a big improvement over shooters seen in previous phones, as the Fireweb is the first Firefox OS phone that comes with both autofocus and an LED flash. Other specifications like connectivity support, the battery and so on seems to be missing for now. The specifications, while better than what we have seen so far, still seems to be aimed at newcomers who want to pick up a cheap phone. The company, in keeping with the relatively bumped up specifications, has priced the Fireweb slightly above its counterparts. Vivo Brazil, which is officially selling the phone, is offering the new device for $207 (Rs 12,750 approx) through pay-as-you-go for new customers or $59 (Rs 3,635 approx) for regular customers. There is currently no word yet on when the new device will be seen in the Indian market, or what the official launch price be.
Here's a quick recap of the specifications of the LG Fireweb:
- 4-inch display, 480x320 pixel resolution
- 5-megapixel primary camera, autofocus, LED flash
- Firefox OS 1.1
