KitKat Android domain demands authentication ahead of impending launch

While a lot has been said and written about the Nexus 5, not too many leaks have emerged about the Android KitKat. Earlier the KitKat bootup screen was spotted on the Nexus 5, and it is highly speculated that the latest iteration of the Android OS could be launched alongside the Nexus 5 soon. The probable dates of the launch are October 31 or November 1, so far.Spotted by Phandroid, the KitKat.com/Android page now asks for login credentials. Sometime back, the page would greet with an interesting 404 error message, but now it can be viewed only if you are authenticated to do so.

This could mean that the Nestle team is planning something in conjunction with the upcoming launch of the KitKat OS. Adding fuel to the fire, this tidbit further hints at the rumoured launch dates of the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4. Earlier, we saw Nestle’s Facebook page disclose an October launch for the Android 4.4 version. It was revealed in the form of a comment posted by the company. In fact, Nestle and Hershey’s have been very active inpromoting their brand, and had also begun a contest offering Nexus 7 tablets and Play Store credit to the lucky winners.

The new Android KitKat version will reportedly also support older phones, bring fragmentation changes i.e. screen resizing, Miracast updates, new APIs regarding animations, a new Gallery visualisation and new notification widgets.
