HTC has issued a warning that the roll-out of Android 4.3 for its flagship HTC One handset has been delayed, pushing the UK release to late November despite already having launched the software in the US.
The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is meant to bring HTC's best-selling smartphone the same set of features as Google's Nexus 4 handset, while retaining the company's Sense UI overlay and custom software packages but includes the latest performance, stability and feature enhancements that form part of Google's mobile-centric operating system.
The Android 4.3 roll-out for the HTC One has already begun in the US, but despite plans to release the software this month HTC has announced a delay that will see the UK release pushed back to late November or even early December.
Responding to customer queries, HTC's UK arm issued a statement which confirmed that it is "expecting to release [Android] Jelly Bean 4.3 update in the UK in 3-5 weeks," but did not offer a reason why the release has been delayed when early indications are that the US update has gone off relatively glitch-free.
The delay will have a knock-on effect on HTC's other products. SIM-free users will be receiving the update in late November, it will be some time after that before network-locked handsets receive the operating system upgrade; the company has also confirmed that its other handsets, including the HTC One Mini, won't get the update until after the HTC One roll-out has finished.
Sadly for HTC, the release of the update is unlikely to calm demands from its customers for the latest and greatest. Google is thought to be just days away from releasing Android 4.4 Kit Kat, which it will make available for all current-generation Nexus devices.
