Google picks up Android optimisation firm FlexiCore

While Google has definitely taken significant steps to smoothen out Android performance with Project Butter, it now looks like the company is still not satisfied. Google has now acquired a French company named FlexyCore, known for its performance enhancing software, DroidBooster. DroidBooster was an app that gave slower and older smartphones more power and acceleration. At this time, the app seems to have been removed from Google Play. According to a report by PCWorld, the company behind the app has said that it can enhance the performance of “any Android embedded code” and make it “ten times faster". While this claim might seem a bit exaggerated, it seems like Google took the company at its word and has now paid $23.1 million for the deal, according to a report from French publication L’ Expansion. You can have a look at how the DroidBooster works in the demo video below:

Google has now confirmed the purchase, according to a report by GigaOM, and has said that FlexyCore’s strong team and “expertise in building software to optimise Android device performance” were the main reasons behind the deal. The report also states that the startup’s team has already been integrated with Google’s Android team. The acquisition has reportedly been a year in the making, having started last September. The value of the software to Google seems pretty obvious. With FlexyCore’s DroidBooster app, the company will be able to reduce the amount of resources it is dedicating to optimising the Android core base. DroidBooster apart from older devices, was looking to bump up the performance of both high and low-end devices. This falls in well with Google’s claim that Android 4.4. will also make low-end phones run smoothly.
