Dell is resurrecting the Venue brand for its latest business tablets. The Venue Pro 8 and Venue Pro 11 run the full version of Windows 8.1, so should be compatible with any Desktop applications rather than just full-screen Modern UI ones found in Windows RT, while the latter can be turned into a full desktop PC with an external docking station.

First up, the Venue Pro 8. As the name suggests its an 8in tablet, with a high definition IPS display and Intel Bay Trail Atom internals.

At just 8.9mm thick and wide enough to hold comfortably in one hand, the Venue Pro 8 is much more manageable than a Surface Pro when it comes to working on the move. It's made from polycarbonate plastic and feels surprisingly sleek for a business device. It even looks pretty stylish too if you opt for the red edition, although there's a more subtle black finish available too.

Dell promises an eight to ten hour battery life, support for stylus input and TPM trusted computing modules for added security. A folio-style Bluetooth keyboard will let you type much faster than using the onscreen virtual keyboard, but it's an optional accessory and not included in the box.

Mini USB, integrated Wi-Fi and Intel Wi-Di wireless display are all included, with an optional HSPA+ WAN module for mobile broadband. It doesn't look like a 4G version is on the way any time soon, but that could change between now and launch based on customer demand.

The Venue 11 Pro, meanwhile, bumps the screen size up to 11.6in but retains the same 1,920x1,080 Full HD resolution. Inside, performance comes courtesy of an Intel 4th Generation Core i3 or i5 processor which supports vPro, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of SSD storage.

It has the same removable battery as the Latitude 10 tablet, which according to Dell has proved very popular with its business customers, and supports the TPM 1.2 trusted computing module. Optional biometric and smartcard security can be added as well.

Integrated NFC makes it easier to pair headphones or keyboards over Bluetooth, while Wi-Fi, Wi-Di, a full-size USB3 port, SD card reader and HDMI video output complete the connectivity line-up.

The optional docking station could prove the most useful to hotdesking professionals, as it turns the Venue 11 Pro into a full PC. HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs allow for multiple monitors, twin USB3 ports let you connect a mouse and keyboard and an Ethernet port gets you online.

If you prefer working on the move, Dell has you covered with a choice of two keyboards. The Tablet Keyboard Mobile has an integrated battery that can extend the tablet's longevity away from the mains by as much as 80%, while the Tablet Keyboard Slim has a wrap-around design that protects the tablet when in transit. Despite being less than a centimetre thick, each key still has around 2mm of travel, making it more comfortable than typing on a flat surface.

The Venue Pro 8 is due to go on sale directly through Dell from the 19th of November, although we have yet to learn confirmed pricing for the UK. The Venue Pro 11 will start from £349 excluding VAT on the 7th of November, with prices rising with specification.
