Bizarre cat pee odour in some Latitude E6430u laptops not hazardous, says Dell

You may have heard of devices not working properly, sometimes even exploding or plain refusing to start up. We bet you have never heard of a problem like this. Dell users have taken to support forums to complain about their Latitude E6430u laptops smelling like – wait for it – cat pee!The complaints on Dell’s support forums date back to June and have not stopped pouring in. The matter got widely recognised after a Reddit thread popped up pointing out the issue. Under the thread titled, “New 6430u smells awful,” a user named three west wrote, “So a few weeks ago I got a new Lattitude 6430u for work. The machine is great, but it smells as if it was assembled near a tomcats litter box. It is truly awful! It seems to be coming from the keyboard.”

Other users chimed in about the issue too. What’s more interesting is that since some of these users actually did have cats in their homes, they blamed the felines for the smelly laptop. A user named DaveFWA wrote, “Same issue - I have been blaming a new kitten who I swore was creeping into my closed back pack at night and magically only hitting the PC with a concentrated urine stream which then magically evaporated.” While Dave has apologised to his kitten, many more users are coming up with this issue. In response to the issue 'pissing' off a lot of Dell users, the company has assured them that the smell is “absolutely not urine or any other type of biological material.” The company also said that it tested the parts and confirmed this point. Dell has blamed this repugnant smell on a manufacturing process which has since been changed. The company is offering replacements in the US currently and has assured customers that the newer machines do not possess the same problem. It also had some users ship their devices back to the company to have the smell checked out and has ascertained that the smell or the laptop do not pose any health hazards. Bizarre as it may be, we’re guessing Dell owes a huge apology to cats everywhere who may have been shamed by the owners for taking a leak on their expensive machines.
