Bing gets a macabre makeover with Halloween homepage

Microsoft has given its Bing search engine a macabre makeover to celebrate Haloween, revealing a haunting homepage that gives a nod to size of the greatest horror films ever made.

The fully interactive homepage, which will only be available at www.bing.co.uk for the next 24 hours, pays homage to some of cinema's most iconic scares with a series of visual and sound clues meant to help visitors guess the references. We've found all six, but won't spoil the surprise for anyone wanting to find them out themselves.

Clicking on clues sends you to a relevant Bing result, which Microsoft hopes will convince visitors to use its search engine over rival Google. The company's recent Bing It On challenge found that out of 1,000 people, 53 per cent of consumers chose Bing results over Google's results.

We aren't totally convinced, as a straw poll of the Expert Reviews office revealed a much lower number of wins for Bing, but it still shows that Bing has improved greatly from its early days as MSN Search.

You'll need an HTML 5 compliant browser to view the Bing interactive Halloween homepage - the latest versions of Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari should all work correctly.
