BBM for iOS, Android coming 'within days', says CMO

After a bunch of false starts, BlackBerry is assuring users that the BlackBerry Messenger app for iPhone and Android is coming “within days”. The Canadian company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Frank Boulben has said that BlackBerry is confident that the issues that led to the launch being abandoned last month have been fixed. In an interview to Reuters, Boulben said that he expects BlackBerry to be able to launch its much-awaited Messenger on Android as well as iOS platforms within days from now. "Whoever is interested in BlackBerry understands that the company has world class products and services. These are products and services that customers can continue to count on,” he said talking about an open letter written by the company to assure users that all was fine in the BlackBerry paradise.

Feels lonely on iOS at the moment

Coming soon...again

For those not in the know, BlackBerry was supposed to launch BBM for Android and iOS last month after many months of testing. Thanks to the unprecedented demand for the application, users on Android resorted to installing leaked APK versions of the application circulated via sharing websites. Thanks to issues releasing from millions of these installations of an unreleased app version, BlackBerry not only had to stop the global rollout of BBM on Android but also on iOS. Of course, this did not go down very well with users around the world who had been anticipating the launch. BlackBerry was proceeded to be slammed for being unable to launch an application on two platforms. The company said that it would not be making any promises about when the app would be ready for rollout again but it looks like it is time now. BlackBerry took the application into beta mode in Android again, understandably to iron out chinks before a new release date. Boulben said that there are already about 6 million Android and iPhone users pre-registered for the application, waiting for the company to release BBM on the platforms. The question now is, whether they will download the app despite the dejection or not. If BBM is released for Android and iOS in the coming week, will you be downloading it?
