Apple’s October event has been creating a lot of buzz with a bunch of new products being launched. In the furor, most of us missed the set of latest images seen on the Cupertino City Council website for the company’s new campus called Apple Campus 2. The Apple Spaceship-like headquarters was last in the news when the new designs were finally approved by the council earlier this month.
The new images now show that the company isn’t satisfied with just one spaceship at Apple Campus 2, and is now coming up with a second facility that is also round, but looks eerily like a flat saucer hovering over the ground. And that is literally just the tip of the iceberg. The circular, glass enclosed structure is actually the entrance to an underground auditorium!
Apple's new auditorium will look like a flying saucer!
The detached structure has been built specifically for media-filled keynote presentations of new products. The new theatre will be able to accomodate 1,000 people. We also managed to get our hands on some more images, showing off the aerial and side views of the structure, from the website of one of the architects working on the new headquarters.
Reminiscent of the architecture seen on Apple’s Fifth Avenue glass cube building, the outside of the new structure is completely made of glass and comes with a white disc top. When seen from a distance, it appears to hover in mid-air. The design of the building also comes with two circular elevators leading to the underground facilities.
Apple is not the only company making the news for its swanky new campuses. Social network giant Facebook is planning to build a new town for its employees that is just five minutes away from the company’s headquarters. The new town, titled Anton Menlo, will come with all the comforts of the world, like cafes, convenience stores, recreational areas and sports bars.
