Apple's invite hints at colourful iPads coming on October 22

Apple has now sent out official press invites for its October 22 event, and the buzz around the same suggests that we will be looking at a couple of new iPads, namely the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2. Also on the list are a few new Macs and some new software. While the invitation itself seems a little vague, we decided to take a closer look at its design and the possible clues hidden within. Apple is well known for its cryptic invites. The last one, on September 10, simply stated ”This should brighten everyone's day", referring to the colourful avatars of the iPhones. The invite for WWDC 2013 was colourful as well, and was obviously hinting at the iOS 7 UI.

Will we be seeing colourful iPads on October 22?

The company’s latest invite comes with a massive teaser that simply says “We still have a lot to cover.” There could be a lot assumed from this statement. The invite also comes with a white backdrop framed with multi-coloured leaves. The “a lot” could be referring to the new iPads, as well as the host of other products that are expected to come our way. The word “cover” in the invite is intriguing, though. Apple’s recently launched the iPhones in a range of colours. While the iPhone 5c comes in green, blue, yellow, pink and white avatars, the 5s can be picked up in grey, golden and silver versions. It is possible that the company may be rolling out its new iPads in more than one colour, although leaked images have only shown the grey version so far. The company could also be referring to the better display sported by the mini 2, though, which is expected to come with a Retina display.

The multi-hued invite itself suggests that Apple may be looking to integrate more colour to its line-up of iPads. Recent reports have also suggested that the company is having problems procuring the Retina display for the mini 2. Thus, the possibility of seeing a cheaper mini 2 variant, lacking a Retina display, but coming with colour versions, might be in the pipeline.

But then, the company is no stranger to this approach. Many of its products in the past have come with many colour options, starting from the older Mac PCs, right up to its current line-up of iPod shuffle, iPod nano and iPod touch. While this is still speculative, it can be assumed that the company may want to extend the same approach to its new iPads. In a sense, we can say that life has come full circle for the company, which popularised colourful computers during the '90s.

With the event still a week away it is tough to guess what the company has up its sleeve, but October 22 could end up being a colourful event, to say the least.
