Amazon is buying an online education company called TenMarks for an undisclosed amount. Founded by Rohit Agarwal in 2008, TenMarks currently provides math curriculum for students. It allows teachers and parents to share mathematic curriculum for K-12 students. Amazon intends to offer rich educational content using TenMarks.Amazon VP of Kindle Dave Limp said, “Amazon and TenMarks intend to develop rich educational content and applications, across multiple platforms, that we think teachers, parents and students will love.”

TenMarks allows teachers to register and access the product for free. They can also opt for premium features, if required. TechCrunch reports that the acquisition is set to close in the fourth quarter of 2013. Rohit Agarwal, TenMarks co-founder said that Amazon and TenMarks share a commitment to developing easy-to-implement solutions for schools and families. TenMarks has raised funding several times but the most recent one was in September 2011 when the company raised $3 million from Catamount Ventures and Birchmere.It looks like Amazon plans on some educational content for its Kindle devices. However, the company could roll out its apps for other platforms too. Though the company has formed its own ecosystem of apps, it fails to match up to the number of apps offered by Google Play and Apple's App Store.
