Amazon has announced that its Cloud Player customers in the UK can now listen to their music on their Sonos wireless HiFi systems.
The move follows Amazon's June launch of Autorip in the UK, a service giving customers free MP3 versions of CDs and vinyl music they purchase from Amazon. When customers purchase AutoRip CDs and vinyl, the MP3 version is automatically added to their Cloud Player library, available free of charge for playback or download.
And, for those customers who bought AutoRip albums at any time since Amazon.co.uk first opened its Music Store in 1999, MP3 versions of those albums are automatically added to their Cloud Player libraries for free.
Steve Boom, Amazon's vice-president of Digital Music, explained that the new service will allow web users with Amazon Cloud Player accounts to stream their cloud-based tunes throughout their home wirelessly from a range of devices, including the kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, Android devices, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, and PC.
He added that the UK launch of the Sonos service follows on from a successful rollout of Amazon Cloud Player for Sonos in the US.
John MacFarlane, chief executive officer at Sonos, said the launch of the new service supports Sonos' aim of providing live streaming access to "all the music on earth". He explained that the UK rollout was accompanied by the launch of similar support for Sonos users in Germany, France, Italy and Spain."
