Post IPO announcement, Twitter looking to overhaul mobile apps

With Twitter confidentially filing for an IPO last week, it’s time to make some sweeping changes across the company. One of the most important fields Twitter seems to be eyeing to make a major change is its mobile platform. The micro-blogging platform wants to overhaul the look and feel of its mobile apps in order to lure in more users. After reports of a brand new user interface for the Android version of the application being tested in beta, it has been noted that Twitter may be making some massive changes to its iOS app as well. According to a report by AllThingsD, a new-looking Twitter for iOS is not too far away now.

Nope, nope, nope!

Set for a revamp

The company seems to be waiting to burst on to the scene almost immediately after Apple rolls out its newest iOS 7 that has changed design guidelines compared to its predecessors. The most important change that is rumoured to be making its way to iOS is the fact that the four tabs at the bottom – Home, Connect, Discover and Me – are on its way out. Yes, you read this right. The tabs will be out and swiping through streams will be in. Interestingly, Twitter for Android too is going to shun the tabs for a swiping interface and a sliding left hand pane. The report suggests that there will also be a stream dedicated only to images shared on Twitter. A feature that could also play a huge part in the redesigned look of Twitter for iOS is the TV card that the micro-blogging website seemed to be testing. Last month, a Twitter experiment caught a few eyes with automated cards for events and TV shows that were popping up on the iOS app’s Home tab. The card was titled “Trending” and contained not just the timing of the show on TV but also how many tweets were out at that point of time. Similarly, a card also showcased an event that was happening less than a mile away from the device’s location and a corresponding tweet that gave more information. With the IPO, TV integration and mobile redesign slated for the near future, it looks like Twitter is having a real busy time.
